All Hands on Deck

This project is about bridging separate communities by making visual "points of contact" to help invoke connections between strangers. Using photography, I'm joining pictures of multiple individuals' hands to create large intricate collages. The images below are from the project's first phase: digital collages compiled from 277 donated hand pictures belonging to people from all over the U.S during 2020. I found inspiration in the old nautical cry for "All hands on deck" as the signal used, typically in an emergency, to indicate that all crew was needed immediately. This phrase best describes this project's proposal - a call for strangers to help create something together.
